What to Wear Guide!

Tip 1: Be Comfortable

Whether you choose to come dressed in your Jammies or Dress clothes, you want to be comfortable. There is nothing worse then showing up for a photo session in clothing that you are uncomfortable wearing. It should be casual enough for you to move and not feel restricted in. Try to keep in mind each family member's personality and choose items accordingly. If your daughter hates dresses, now is not the time to fight the battle.

Tip 2: Consider your background

Since your photo session will take place in studio decorated for Christmas, consider the color scheme of red and white. The bed comforter will be white so you don't want to come dressed with a lot of white or you will blend into the bed. I always suggest that mom pick out her outfit first and then pull colors from what is in her outfit for the others in the family.

Tip 3: Limit wearing prints to 1-2 family members

It can be so easy to get wrapped up in the festive prints and awesome graphics. My advice ...Keep it Simple! After all, the people you are sending the cards to are far more interested in seeing how you (or most likely your little ones) have grown and changed over the past year. Avoid dressing every member in your family in plaid. Too many prints and patterns distracts from the real purpose of the picture - your family!

Tip 4: Pick a focal point

Choose one person to wear a print or texture and build your wardrobe from there. This person doesn't have to be the focus of every photo, but it is good to start with an item you can build off of.

Tip 5: Use Texture in Unexpected Ways!

If you choose to come dressed in dress clothes, here's a tip for you. A tulle skirt, a gleaming metallic shoe, or a denim jacket paired with a lace top or dress will add an element of surprise to your images. Layers, Layers Layers!! They work well and look AWESOME on camera!

HEAD TO TOE

Jammes: Fun christmas socks or slippers are great but I love bare feet so if you can't find the above moms, this is a great way to treat yourself to a pedicure!

Dress Clothes: Remember to dress down to you and your family's feet! No scuffed Reeboks for boys, but fun shoes like Converse, "boat" shoes, or boots. Same for girls, no Dora crocs, but more traditional Mary Janes or boots work best!

Tip 6: Accessorize

Adding accessories like hats, scarves, necklaces helps add character to the family. Be careful not to go overboard. You want to bring attention to your family, not distract from them.

Tip 7: Test it out

Before your photo session, lay all your clothing out and see how it looks. Think about if you need to make any changes, and what types of colors could be in the background. Feel free to text me photos if you have questions. (757-751-0571)
